7-38-55 Rule

In a conversation, the words that came out from our mouth are only 7% of the message perceived by other people, 38% are from the tone and voice, and the remaining 55% are from our body gestures. It’s a “rule” that is created by Albert Mehrabian.

How to use this rule? Pay attention to the voice and gestures to make sure you get the actual message conveyed by another person. If the words and the body language don’t align, they probably lying or at least unconvinced.

If they don’t align, we can use “labeling technique” to discover the source of incongruence.
