How to Win Friends
To win friends, we should make ourself more likable. To make ourself likeable, there are a lot of ways explained in this book. Halo effect, a cognitive bias when people tend to judge people in the first impression because of few traits showed by the people. The ideas given in this book are how we take advantage of halo effect bias.
Few examples of halo effect:
- Candidate in the interview who is well-dressed perceived as smart, confident, and capable
- A person that is good-looking or attractive tend to be assumed as intelligent and trustworthy

- Give more smile, this makes us to be more approachable
- Be a good listener, we’ll be more likable if we give more attention to the others, rather than a talker. Give more follow-up questions of their statements instead of “yes” or “no”.
- Pay attention to details, people will appreciate of how we actually remember small things of them.
- Remember their name and call them by their name more often. They will feel a close connection between us if we refer them by their name instead of smth like “bro”.
- Appreciate little things and honest compliments.
- Talk about their interests.
- Don’t be negative, don’t get into an argument (please avoid it)
