Myopia Main Causes

I wrote about the causes about myopia, but now I found an article that discuss about myopia from nature.com: the myopia boom. There are many causes of myopia such as genetics. But it was obvious that genes could not be the whole story. If the parents don’t have myopia, but why around 2010s there are many more and more kids with myopia?

Sixty years ago, only 10-20% of Chinese population was short sighted. Today, up to 90% adults are.

Glasses, contact lenses, and surgery might help with myopia. But it does not address the main underlying root cause: slightly elongated ball. That the lens focused on the light slightly in front of the retina, instead of inside of it.

Genes are not only the cause of kids having myopia. In the 2010s, people are starting to get smartphones and computers. Many research papers stated in the article concluded that time spent outside is crucial to kids eye health. Less time spent outside means more risk to myopia. More time inside more risk to have myopia. More time spend inside are correlated highly with reading books and staring at the screen in the short maximum near sight.
