Oxytocin: The Love Hormone

Oxytocin is known as ’love’ hormone due to the fact that it is released during intimate social bonding, triggered by physical touch with emotional closeness.

It significantly reduces stress, lowers blood pressure and improves emotional well-being. Especially for women, oxytocin is crucial because it fosters milk ejection during breastfeeding. Some researches show that oxytocin can boost physical well-being by improving sleep quality and cardiovascular health.

How does it feel when oxytocin level rises?

One could experience an emotional warmth and the feeling of being secure because it calms down the amygdala (the threat-processing center of the brain).

Few other signs include “butterfly” or goosebumps, a sense of peace, and increased sociability.

Fun fact: petting animal could also boost oxytocin.
