Sleep Paralysis (Ketindihan)
Sleep paralysis is the inability move your body while sleeping. This condition lasts for seconds to minutes.
We cannot move our body because when we are sleeping, our brain paralyzes body so it won’t move for safety reason.
Normally, when we wake up, the brain turns on first, then the body starts to unfreeze, then we can move our body. There is something like a “switch” to unfreeze the body. In sleep paralysis, our brain wake up, but forgets to flip the “unfreeze” switch.
Why we “hallucinate” in this situation? Because sleep paralysis happens during Rapid Eye Movement (REM) phase, when we are dreaming. Our brain is still in dreaming mode, so it’s kinda make sense if we can see “things” and hear weird noises.
